The bisexual pride flag was designed by Michael Page in 1998 to give the bisexual community its own symbol.
Colors and Symbolism: The flag consists of three horizontal stripes:
A broad stripe of magenta at the top, representing attraction to the same gender.
A broad stripe of royal blue at the bottom, representing attraction to the opposite gender.
A narrower stripe of lavender in the middle, which is the blend of magenta and royal blue, representing attraction to all genders.
Meaning: The overlap of the pink and blue represents bisexuality as attraction to both, not simply a "mix" of gay and straight. Some interpretations suggest the lavender represents those who identify as neither exclusively gay nor straight.
Purpose: The flag was created to increase the visibility of bisexuals, who often face erasure or invisibility within both the heterosexual and LGBTQ+ communities.
